The acting courses I teach bring together people of different ages, backgrounds, and professions. Some dream of pursuing acting professionally, while others simply wish to experience the creative process for themselves. What unites them is a genuine desire to discover the art of acting from the inside.
From the very first class, through a series of playful concentration exercises, the group begins to develop into a true ensemble. These exercises are engaging, enjoyable, and often surprisingly liberating. Participants quickly discover that acting is not about pretending, but about becoming more present, attentive, and alive in the moment.
Over the course of five weeks, we work on a variety of improvisations designed to unlock imagination and encourage creative freedom. One of the most rewarding moments comes when students present their own original improvisations. Together we observe, discuss, and analyze the work, creating an environment where everyone learns from one another.
I work individually with every participant, helping each person develop at their own pace. This personal attention creates trust, confidence, and a willingness to take creative risks. Exercises involving imagination, the five senses, observation, and perception often become some of the students’ favorite experiences.
As a teacher, my greatest reward comes at the end of each class when I see students leaving inspired and energized. Many return for a second course, and some even for a third. Their enthusiasm reminds me why I love teaching.
You can explore some of our students’ improvisations and hear their experiences on the Instagram page of Eva Volitzer Actor’s Studio.
